Diaper Free! (for 3 more weeks)

Maya is pretty independent about EVERYTHING, so I knew that potty training would be tough. It had to be her decision and she had to feel that it was HER idea. After I had tried for about two weeks, I gave up and put her back in diapers. The very next Sunday, she refused to wear diapers and only wanted underwear, even at night, and she has had only 2 or 3 accidents in 3 weeks time. She's even dry through the night! So, I am free from buying diapers for 3 more weeks. Her big incentive was a fish like Uncle Chris. She loved their fish! She tried to feed it once and dumped ALL of the food in there, but luckily Eric was there to save the fish. So, that was what she wanted when she filled up her sticker chart. (A side note about the sticker chart--This worked with Hayden, too. If she went potty she got a sticker, but if she had an accident we took a sticker off. Taking a sticker off was the worst thing ever for her!)

We bought her a little pink beta fish and I thought we named it Dora, but in the video clip below, she says it's not Dora, just fishy. She has since started calling him Dora again.

At what age did you start the potty-training? Did you reference any helpful books?

I started potty training her when she was 2 1/2. I didn't read any books, but a lot of my friends say that "Potty training in a Day" is a good one. I just do the sticker chart and once they are in underwear, that's ALL they wear. Pull ups have never worked for me and actually have hindered the process when I've used them. It's always taken about a week for them to get it. (and there are still accidents every now and then the first couple of weeks after)

That is SO smart to have her potty trained by the time you have your baby. Could you imagine having more than one in diapers at the same time? Did you have that with your first two? I'm not sure how far apart they are. But, props to you!

And I read your potty training advice, and I am totally using it. A switch to underwear, and never going back is really smart, and the no pull ups thing makes total sense. Oh, the joys of motherhood! I'm still excited though :)

Oh, and I just realized that the reason why I thought we had the same due date was because I was changed from March 3rd to Feb 28th (by the hospital), but my doctor switched it back to March 3rd.

Both of my kids have been potty trained by 2 1/2, so I haven't ever had two in diapers at the same time! It's wonderful!!
