Tag--I'm it!

I've been tagged to write 7 facts about me that no one would know. Here goes:

7. I have had 4, almost 5 surgeries in the past 5 years. I'm not sure you want me to bore you with what surgeries that I've had to have. 2 are C-sections, though; so I will probably have to have the rest of my children that way, much to my dismay!

6. I didn't like salad AT ALL until 2 years ago. In fact, thinking about the texture of lettuce would send me gagging! (no kidding!) I finally decided 2 years ago that if I was ever going to lose this baby weight that I needed to learn to like it. I knew that it was a mental thing, so I found a salad dressing that I like (Olive Garden's) and I would eat salad dressing with a few leaves of salad and then gradually work up. That makes me sound CRAZY, doesn't it? I am glad to say that I love salad now and I eat it quite frequently. I was sad to realize, however, that liking salad doesn't necessarily mean you will lose weight. Too Bad! :(

5. About 4 months ago I decided that I wanted to be a pastry chef. I am laughing right now because this is so like me. I want to do something and I immurse myself in it and then the dream fades... So, like I said, 4 months ago I started out on this journey. I was decorating at least a cake a day, trying new recipes, and eating frosting for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had never even decorated a cake before this period in time, so it surprised my husband that I wanted to do this. Needless to say, after a few weeks of many many cakes and cupcakes, I was so SICK of frosting and sugar that I couldn't even look at the stuff. At least I know how to make and decorate cakes now. Oh, well!

4. I have had the same church calling my whole married life. We have moved every year, sometimes twice a year, and I always end up in this. I am the Enrichment Leader for our ward. I must say that I am very comfortable in my position and I totally know what I'm doing. I am just scared that when they call me to do something else that I won't have a clue! I have served in the RS presidency before, but I was the Enrichment Counselor when I did that. Go figure! If anyone needs ideas, I have a wealth of them. One good thing is that I totally feel like I could throw great parties for huge amounts of people. As long as they like crafts...

3. I have 2 pet peeves and they are both things that my husband does. (Sorry, hunny!) I think he does them because he knows they annoy me, and he just says, "oh, I forgot! Sorry!" Yeah, right! The first one is that I HATE when people shuffle their bare feet along the carpet. That noise just bothers me to no end! Also, I hate wet or damp towels that are left on the bed or couch or anywhere else for that matter. Just hang it up, or put it in the laundry basket which is 2 feet away!!!! I really do love my husband, though. If that's all that bothers me about him, I think we're doing pretty good!

2. I am always changing my house. I feel like I always need to have a project, so I do this by beautifying my home. I went to the Parade of Homes yesterday with my friend, Amy, and I came home and already changed 2 things, and I have plans to change more. We have lived here for a year and a half and I (with a little help from Eric :) have painted my kitchen, painted the cabinets in the kitchen and in the bathroom, faux finished my bathroom, textured the front entry way, made Hayden's and Maya's bedding, painted stripes in Maya's room, made the curtains in the bedrooms and kitchen, refinished a hutch to match my kitchen, painted our sofa table, and made cute bookshelves for the toy room. I could name more, but you get the idea. I am now planning on changing the color of my kitchen and painting my kitchen cabinets a different color. My problem is that I have to finish what I start, so when I start a project my house looks like a landfill!

1. This isn't the coolest thing about me, but it is probably the best known if you know me well. I have a HUGE fear of spiders!!! The first night that I saw Arachnaphobia, I didn't sleep at all. I have dreams about spiders all the time. I am always looking for them in the house. If I see one in my house, it's all I think or talk about. My son, Hayden, will smash the spiders for me because I am too scared. There have been events in my life that have led to this fear. One of which was at the age of 7, we had a box of baby kittens in our garage. My mom pulled the box away from the wall and there was a 6 or 7 inch wolf spider with hundereds of baby spiders crawling all over it. EEEWWWW!!! Also, when we lived in Logan, I bent down to pick up a leaf on the ground, and as I touched it, the leaf moved. It was actually a huge brown recluse! Eric killed it, but I was crying and shaking in the corner! I then became obsessed and looked up everything about brown recluse spiders that I could find. I have like a facsination/fear of them. Is that weird?

Anyway, that's a few things about me. I hope you don't think less of me or think that I'm crazy. I guess I am. Anyway, I tag Heidi, Dad, Brittney, Brooke, and Kimberly.
I look forward to learning more about you all!

I have to explain the video below. Whenever Maya is asked, "Is it Yummy?" she does this cute little head nod. The funny thing about it is that she will answer this way even when she is not eating. This has become a huge joke with us. Everything is Yummy to Maya!

Is It YUMMY?

Happy 24th of July

We had a very enjoyable Pioneer Day this year! On Sunday we (meaning I) made sugar cookies (the really good thick soft chewy kind) and decorated them with red white and blue frosting. I love baking so this was fun for me! I just don't understand why my husband and son don't want to help--they only want to eat them. But they were very yummy and we brought them to Farmington to share with the rest of the family.

On Monday, the 23rd, we went to the South Towne Expo Center to preview the floats for the Days of '47 parade in Salt Lake. Our Stake made one of the floats, so we wanted to go vote on it! My Dad, Georgie, and Brooke came with us. It was really fun, and FREE! I was impressed with the amount of money and time that goes into the floats. There were a few stand outs. Hayden's favorite was a float that had 3 cavemen looking people on it. You could ask them a yes or no question and they would answer you! We asked one of them if he ate little red headed boys and he shook his head, "Yes"! Then he put his hands up like he was going to get Hayden. It was cute! Hayden also got his face painted like Spider Man (note the face above!) and a dragon balloon.
After the Expo Center, we went home (Hayden had to ride with Grandpa!) and ate pizza. My Dad kept saying he had a "special Pioneer Day surprise". Then, he pulled out 3 2liters of coke and packages of Mentos. (Do you know where he's going with this?) It was hilarious! Better than fireworks. DO try this at home. Afterwards we were honored to have a fireworks show put on by Trevor and Jonah. They attatched their action figures to different fireworks to see what damage it would do. Quite entertaining, I must admit. After the fireworks we went back to my Dad's to sleep outside on the Trampoline (I brought a tent). It was fun talking with my Dad and siblings on the trampoline and reminiscing about old times and bad dreams! We had a good time. I love those times with family! Anyway the tent was HOT, and I did not sleep well. I might not participate in that tradition again next year.

In the morning, Georgie made us waffles and the best homemade syrup that I've ever had! I am always impressed with the extra mile she goes to make things a little better, or more enjoyable. I think Maya even ate a whole waffle! The rest of the day was spent going to the park, talking with my sisters, and sweating to death in the heat! That night we had a yummy barbeque at my Grandpa and Grandma Elliott's house. I swear, they cook the best food, and it looks like they cook for an army! (I guess there's so many of us, we could be an army!) And again, Georgie made the best potato salad that I've EVER HAD! Seriously! I have a lot to learn from her. My aunt Jean made a gingerbread pioneer cake and we sang "Come Come Ye Saints". It is nice to be around such a strong and united family. I always feel uplifted when we're together.
After dinner, we went to Lagoon and rode rides until the fireworks started. My brothers and sister came. I haven't spent much time with Rigby lately, so it was nice to have him with us. All of my brothers are so good with my kids. Hayden especially loves his uncles. He calls them "his best friends". That means so much to me! I'm glad that my brothers aren't too cool to hang out with their big nerdy sister. All in all we had a GREAT 24th as you can tell! I'll post pictures tomorrow when I have more time.

Baby Rogaine?

Ok, I'm seriously starting to worry about my baby's hair! She has had the same amount of hair and it has been the same length since she was born. Honestly, is something wrong with this? I am totally longing to put some cute pigtails or pony tails in her hair, and I am having to settle on infant headbands still. Which, by the way, she hates wearing and throws them off when she knows that I'm not looking. The hair that she does have is super fine and stands straight up like she's stuck her finger in an outlet! Please assure me that my baby girl will have girly hair! I am starting to think we'll have to get creative come her senior prom!

Like a kid again!

On Friday night Eric and I were planning a much needed "date" without the kids. Most of our Friday nights are spent wishing we would have thought to get a babysitter, but since we still want to go out we take our kids. Date night is more of a family outing. We were going to the Farmington Festival Days the next morning, so we asked my Mother in law if she could watch the kids.

Get this--We went to Lagoon for date night. I have not done Lagoon without kids for ...FOREVER! I seriously felt like a kid again going from ride to ride! I highly recommend Lagoon for a couples night out. It was very fun, and that night I slept like a baby. (Lagoon is very exhausting!!)
