The Love Bugs

One of my New Year's Resolutions this year has been to start some new traditions with my family. In this month's Family Fun magazine, they had an article about a family that is visited by Love Bugs that leave treats and surprises, so we decided to make a mailbox to see if they would come and visit us!
We were visited by the Love Bugs on February 1st. Hayden writes them every night with a new question: How many bugs are in your family?, Where do you live?, What are your names?, etc. He loves checking the mailbox to see if there are any new surprises. He even made them a little bed and chairs for them when they come and visit. So far, we've found out that the bugs only come during February to spread love to others, there are three bugs in their family, their names are Herbie Love Bug, True Love Bug, and their daughter is June Bug, their Mom is also having another Love Bug after Valentines day (just like me!) It's been so much fun for them and we have more things planned to exchange in the coming week.

We've also used the mailbox to give valentines to each other. If the flag is up, You've Got Mail!!Every time I see this picture of Maya, I laugh. She's enjoying one of the goodies from the Love Bugs. They got Lik-M-Aids and I guess it was a little sour for her!

Diaper Free! (for 3 more weeks)

Maya is pretty independent about EVERYTHING, so I knew that potty training would be tough. It had to be her decision and she had to feel that it was HER idea. After I had tried for about two weeks, I gave up and put her back in diapers. The very next Sunday, she refused to wear diapers and only wanted underwear, even at night, and she has had only 2 or 3 accidents in 3 weeks time. She's even dry through the night! So, I am free from buying diapers for 3 more weeks. Her big incentive was a fish like Uncle Chris. She loved their fish! She tried to feed it once and dumped ALL of the food in there, but luckily Eric was there to save the fish. So, that was what she wanted when she filled up her sticker chart. (A side note about the sticker chart--This worked with Hayden, too. If she went potty she got a sticker, but if she had an accident we took a sticker off. Taking a sticker off was the worst thing ever for her!)

We bought her a little pink beta fish and I thought we named it Dora, but in the video clip below, she says it's not Dora, just fishy. She has since started calling him Dora again.
