Meet "TY"

This morning as I was getting Hayden ready for pre-school, he said that today he was wearing something Ty would wear. I asked him who Ty is and he said, "Oh, just my friend." I had never heard of Ty before, so I started to ask more questions. "Does Ty go to Pre-school or primary with you?" "Where does Ty live?" Here are the facts about Ty:
  • He has brown hair
  • He has red eyes ? (creepy, huh?)
  • He comes over to our house all the time
  • He doesn't go to Pre-School or Sunbeams with Hayden
  • He lives really close to our house
  • Sometimes Ty's other friend Kaylee comes over, too
  • Kaylee is having a birthday soon
  • Kaylee lives by Marisa's house

I told Eric about this conversation I had with Hayden, so while I was gone tonight, Eric questioned Hayden a little more. Hayden told Eric that Ty just left a little while ago. So, I'm thinking that Hayden has an imaginary friend or two. I looked up his pre-school list, and there is a Tyler in his class, but he has never mentioned Tyler before today. And, I don't think that Tyler in his class has red eyes. At least I hope he doesn't. I 've been trying to ask Hayden more questions, but he said he's tired of talking about Ty. He now says that his best friends are Trey (his cousin), Ty and Kaylee.

My mom told me that I had an imaginary friend named Shanney. I played with her all the time and talked about her. I need to ask her again, but I think Shanney went away when my sister was old enough to play with. So, here's my question. Is this normal? Do any, or have any of your kids gone through this, too?

I think it's really normal. Jake use to have an imaginary friend - but it was a bobcat - at first he was afraid of the bobcat, then he used his "pretend" gun to shoot the bobcat (to get over his fear of it), and then the bobcat came down from the mountains and protected him..... Kids have a great imagination. I wouldn't worry too much.

Jurnee had an imaginary friend named "Janie" from the age of 3-5. She went away when Jurnee started Kindergarten. She came up with all kinds of crazy things they did together.. COMPLETELY NORMAL...

It is totally normal... so funny how their little minds work :) Sounds like the hair cut went good and I love how you post about the funny things Hayden says... he is so cute! One of these days I am going to have meet him in person, I bet him and Addie would get along so good :)

I forgot to tell you earlier, but a lady in my last ward had a daughter with a VERY creative imagination. She had a friend named "Tree Passer"! She used to make up stories about the things that Tree Passer did to entertain her older brother. So at least Hayden's friend has a normal name!

Normal yes... does that mean that it isn't a little bit creepy? I don't know. I do keep having movie flashbacks of Drop Dead Fred though. (Haven't seen it? date night with you and Eric!) Anyway Rice Crispy was my buddy growing up and I was a middle child so what I am saying is to be normal you must have an imaginary friend! Go Hayden!! :)

So funny, and yet a little creepy. Tim had imaginary friends when he was little named joey and richie...it cracks me up every time I hear their names. I think it is just a stage that may last as long as Tim's (which was about a year). Oh the imagination is such an interesting thing!
